Case Study
Interface Security Systems
Introduction
When Interface Security Systems approached me to create a 2D explainer animation, their goal was to showcase the comprehensive range of services they offer and dispel the misconception that they solely focus on security cameras. They wanted to highlight their diverse offerings, which spanned business security, secure networks, voice solutions, and business intelligence. They were in the early stages of a company rebrand, and were looking for an animation that embodied a clean and modern aesthetic. My task was to craft an engaging animation that not only conveyed the breadth of Interface Security Systems’ capabilities but also aligned with their evolving brand identity.
Process
Styleframes
The first step in creating the animation for Interface Security Systems was exploring three different illustrated design styles. The goal was to find a style that not only told the company’s story, but also match their new clean look. This style had to be versatile enough to be used on different platforms (website, signage and ads) while keeping in mind what Interface Security Systems values are and what makes them special.
Style 01
Style: Friendly, approachable, fun, and branded blue. The characters lean more toward the cartoon side of things, allowing them to show frustration or delight.
Colors: Blue and purple hues keep this piece in line with the mainstream colors assigned to Interface.
Style 02
Style: Friendly, approachable, but a little more sophisticated and stylized than straight-up cartoons.
Colors: Blue and purple hues keep this piece in line with the mainstream colors assigned to Interface. The characters and security features are highlighted with color, while the background and environments are desaturated and less in focus.
Style 03
Style: Sophisticated, stylized and business-like. These isometric characters are more human and less cartoon-like. Their emotions and interactions don’t drive the story as much as the icons and Interface illustrations do.
Colors: Blue hues keep this piece in line with the Interface brand. The background is clean and uncluttered, allowing the isometric graph to pop and be the focus. Icons could also live in an isometric environment, coming together to form one cohesive cube.
Storyboards
The client felt that Style 03 was the most effective way to showcase their story and emphasize the value of their services.
The next step was to create the storyboards.
Animation
Using the isometric style, I designed a series of interconnected scenes to illustrate the overall scope of Interface Security Systems. Each scene showcased the advantages that customers can enjoy. The animation provided a summary of the services offered by Interface Security, such as network management, managed services, and video surveillance solutions. To enhance the final animation, I recorded a voice-over and selected a suitable soundtrack to accompany the visuals.
